Nour Ayoub
“Article of the Month” award January 2025. Synthesis, evaluation and mechanistic insights of novel IMPDH inhibitors targeting ESKAPEE bacteria. European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (2024).
Profile
Nour AYOUB, 26 years old, is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Structural Motility team at the Institut Curie under the supervision of Dr. Anne Houdusse. She is working on the biochemical and structural characterization of myosin motors to study the fundamental mechanisms of force production and motor regulation. This project aims to explore the molecular interactions and structural dynamics of these motors to better understand their functioning in complex physiological processes, with the goal of developing new therapeutic tools targeting these motors to treat human diseases. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Life and Earth Sciences – Biochemistry from Saint Joseph University of Beirut. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she pursued a Master in Molecular and Cellular Biology, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, at the Faculty of Science at Sorbonne University. Her interest in biochemistry and structural biology further grew during her Master 2 internship in the Biochemistry and Screening Platform team at the Institut Pasteur, under the supervision of Dr. Hélène Munier-Lehmann. She subsequently undertook a PhD in biochemistry in the same laboratory, focusing on elucidating the regulatory mechanisms of the de novo purine nucleotide biosynthesis pathway in bacteria, with a specific focus on bacterial inosine 5′-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), a key enzyme in this pathway, with the aim of developing new inhibitors and therapeutic strategies to combat bacterial infections resistant to current treatments. Since then, she has been particularly interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of protein regulation and leveraging them in innovative therapeutic applications.
