Marianne Grunberg-Manago Award
The SFBBM has been committed for many years to ongoing efforts to promote, highlight, and acknowledge women in scientific careers. The Marianne Grunberg-Manago Award is an excellence award that honors a woman who has made a remarkable contribution to public research through the significance of her work and the recognition she has gained in her scientific field.
Eligibility and selection criteria for the Marianne Grunberg-Manago Award
We have decided, through this prize, to preserve the name and the body of work accomplished by Madame Marianne Grunberg-Manago. A remarkable biochemist, Marianne Grunberg-Manago was a pioneer in the study of the mechanisms of heredity, the understanding of the genetic code, and the mechanisms of protein biosynthesis. She also led a brilliant international career at a time when women scientists were very few. An exceptional figure, she was, among other achievements, the first woman to serve as President of the French Academy of Sciences (1995), the first woman to be President of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (1985–1988), and the first woman President of the SFBBM (1975).
The SFBBM Marianne Grunberg-Manago Prize is open to all women, with no age limit, who have been members of the SFBBM for at least three consecutive years. The jury, composed of members of the SFBBM Board of Directors, will select the laureate in the autumn. She will receive the Marianne Grunberg-Manago medal and a prize of 3,000 euros.
